Resident Shoreline Fishing License now Free!
Since August 1, 2009 Florida residents (with certain exemptions) have been required to possess a saltwater shoreline fishing license if fishing from natural shorelines, piers, jetties, bridges, floating docks, or similar structures. Although the license is still required by law, starting July 1, 2010, the license is FREE to resident anglers!! The state implemented the license last year to comply with federal regulations and to avoid anglers having to pay for a more expensive federal license. However, the state legislation repealed the fee during their last session. Anglers who order the license over the phone or via the Internet will still have to pay a processing fee. The shoreline license and other required licenses and permits can be purchased online at www.fl.wildlifelicense.com, at county tax collectors' offices, many retail outlets that sell fishing and hunting supplies, or by calling toll-free 888-FISH-FLORIDA (347-4356). Keep in mind there are several exemptions associated with who does and does not need a fishing license in Florida. For more information visit: http://www.myfwc.com/License/Index.htm.
